A Nepali student won the world prize in documentry. The student who hails from Mahadevbesi of Kavre has won the Democracy Video Challenge, 2010 organised by the US government for his documentary titled 'Democracy is Black' which portrays a definition of democracy by means of colour.
Poudel, 20, a student of film studies has portrayed how the
meaning of democracy is different in the eyes of different people and that the
inclusion of all perspectives is real democracy, through the means of colour.
He has mixed four colours-blue, green, yellow and red-symbolising freedom,
peace, unity and produced colour black in the video. In the video Poudel has
shown the colour of democracy is different to different members of the family.
When mixed together all four colours form black; hence democracy for his family
is black, it is shown in the 1.30 minute video.
Two Nepali youths, Poudel and Shree Gurung had made to the finals of the
Challenge. Some 2200 participants from 89 countries across the world
participated in the contest.
