
After long controversy finally MRP deal has been finalized. Machine Readable Passports (MRPs), the Foreign Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Tuesday decided to hand over the multi-million-dollar contract to print and supply the MRPs to a Franch Company Oberthur Technologies.
As per the tender notice, the selected company should come forward within seven days. Oberthur had offered to supply an MRP for US$ 3.50 inclusive of all personalization, technical and non technical costs.
Chief of Protocol at Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Mukti Nath Bhatta submitted a report on the MRP contract decision to secretary at the Foreign Ministery, Madan Kumar.
A few months back, a contract evaluation team was formed under the leadership of Bhtatta to select the appropriate company.
The evaluation team has decided to seal the MRP deal with Oberthur Technologies, the Foreign Ministry sources told ekantipur.com.
Four companies had filed their bid documents.
Earlier, the government had scrapped the deal with India to supply MRP copies following intense pressure. After which, the MoFA announced a fresh bid to supply MRP on May 18.
According to sources there will be contract between ministry and company within 9 days and job of printing passport will be done within 70 days. Officials of MoFA said to Solidaritykhabar that MRP will be issued within Jan 2011.
